Knowing Where You Can Carry Legally
In Montana, you may legally carry a handgun without a concealed carry permit:
- In a motor vehicle—outside the city limits of most Montana cities
- Outside the official boundaries of a city or town
- Outside the confines of a logging, lumbering, mining, or railroad camp
- While you are lawfully engaged in hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, hiking, backpacking, farming, ranching, or other activity in which weapons are often carried for recreation or protection
- In any other location where concealed handguns are not prohibited by law
