Who May Not Get a Handgun Carry Permit
According to TCA §39-17-1351, you cannot get a Handgun Carry Permit if you do not meet the eligibility requirements. For example, you would not be eligible to get the permit if you:
- Have been convicted of a felony.
- Have been convicted of a qualifying misdemeanor for:
- Driving under the influence within the time periods specified in §39-17-1351 or…
- Committing a crime of domestic violence or…
- Stalking.
- Are subject to a protective order.
- Are a fugitive from justice.
- Are an unlawful user of, or addicted to, alcohol, a controlled substance, or a controlled substance analogue.
- Are an alien and are in the United States illegally or unlawfully.
- Do not meet any of the other eligibility requirements listed in §39-17-1351.
