Safe Storage in a Vehicle

If you need to store your handgun in your vehicle or in someone else’s, you should make sure that it is concealed according to state law. In Tennessee, if you have a handgun carry permit, you may transport and store a firearm or ammunition in your vehicle if you have legally parked in a public or private parking area and you meet these requirements.

• If you are in the vehicle, the firearm or ammunition must be kept from ordinary observation by others.
• When you are not in the vehicle, the firearm or ammunition must be:

  • Locked in the trunk, glove box, or interior of your vehicle or in a container securely affixed to the vehicle.
